Where Global Leadership
Meets Innovation.

A global ecosystem connecting the people and ideas shaping a more sustainable future.

Our Story

GELA is a New York–incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization building a global leadership and innovation ecosystem grounded in sustainability. Connecting North America and the Asia-Pacific, GELA brings together globally minded entrepreneurs, business leaders, scientists, investors, scholars, and emerging leaders working across frontier technologies, finance and investment, biomedicine, and global governance.

By connecting ideas, talent, technology, capital, and industry, GELA fosters cross-sector and cross-border collaboration, transforms forward-looking ideas into meaningful partnerships and action, and empowers a new generation of global leaders to shape a more innovative, inclusive, and sustainable future.

Headquartered in New York, with a growing presence in Shenzhen, Beijing, Hong Kong, and university communities worldwide, GELA works with academic institutions, corporations, investors, research organizations, and international partners to advance responsible innovation and global sustainable development. Its work supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and GELA has been a member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) since June 2025.

GELA’s roots trace back to CGELA, an initiative conceived in New York in December 2022 by a group of Columbia University graduate students. CGELA was founded on the belief that emerging leaders should play a more active role in addressing global challenges and shaping the institutions, technologies, and industries of the future.

Building on this vision, members of the founding team established GELA as an independent nonprofit organization in New York in June 2023. In December 2023, GELA received federal recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, marking its evolution from a university-based initiative into an independently governed international organization with a broader institutional mission.

Today, CGELA remains GELA’s founding university chapter and an integral part of the broader GELA ecosystem. Through a global headquarters and university chapters model, GELA provides strategic direction, institutional resources, brand coordination, partnership development, and operational support to chapters and affiliated university communities. This structure enables locally initiated programs to retain strong connections to their campuses while gaining access to a shared international network, cross-border resources, and opportunities for collaboration.

GELA’s ecosystem is organized around three core pillars: the University Chapters Alliance, the AC Accelerator, and the SustainX Institute.

The University Chapters Alliance connects student-led organizations, university communities, and emerging chapters across leading academic institutions. It develops the next generation of globally minded leaders through interdisciplinary programs, cross-campus collaboration, international exchange, and direct engagement with industry, research, entrepreneurship, and public affairs.

The AC Accelerator is GELA’s entrepreneurship and innovation platform. It supports early-stage, innovation-driven, and impact-oriented ventures through structured incubation programs, mentorship, industry partnerships, international market access, and connections to global investor networks. By bringing together founders, universities, corporations, investors, and domain experts, the AC Accelerator helps promising ideas move toward practical application, sustainable growth, and long-term impact.

The SustainX Institute serves as GELA’s research, policy, and knowledge platform. It convenes scholars, researchers, industry practitioners, and institutional partners to develop research, policy insights, and collaborative initiatives at the intersection of emerging technology, climate resilience, responsible investment, sustainable innovation, and global development. Through interdisciplinary inquiry and applied research, the Institute seeks to translate knowledge into informed dialogue, institutional collaboration, and actionable solutions.

Across these three pillars, GELA develops international forums, global summits, policy and industry dialogues, research initiatives, university programs, venture and entrepreneurship programs, and cross-sector partnerships. These initiatives create opportunities for participants to engage directly with entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, academics, business leaders, and decision-makers while gaining the knowledge, networks, practical experience, and global perspective required to navigate increasingly complex global challenges.

GELA’s long-term vision is to build a globally connected ecosystem where ideas, talent, technology, capital, and institutions come together to create lasting value. By integrating leadership development, research, entrepreneurship, investment, and international collaboration, GELA advances responsible leadership, accelerates meaningful innovation, and strengthens cooperation between North America, the Asia-Pacific, and the wider world.

Together, GELA and its global community are working to shape a future defined by innovation, inclusion, collaboration, and sustainability.
