The Global ESG Leadership Association (GELA) is a New York–registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and advancing global sustainable development. We address global sustainability challenges by mobilizing the expertise of students, scholars, innovators, and international partners, and by building a connected platform for collaboration across universities and industries.
Our mission centers on global sustainability forums, climate and sustainability risk management, impact-driven innovation, leadership development, and youth-led research. Through our three-pillar structure—the University Chapters Alliance, the AC Accelerator, and the SustainX Institute—we support education, research, and cross-border innovation that help shape practical solutions for a more sustainable and resilient future.
We work closely with student organizations and university communities worldwide to raise awareness of sustainability concepts and inspire youth to take meaningful action. By providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for global engagement, we cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility and empower young people to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
On June 4th, 2025, GELA officially joined the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), further strengthening our commitment to advancing sustainable development and elevating youth leadership on the international stage.
Our Mission:
Raise global awareness of sustainability challenges, risks, and opportunities among university students, and cultivate an active, collaborative sustainability community across campuses worldwide.
Inspire and empower students to engage in sustainability initiatives, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and youth-led action that contributes to the SDGs.
Provide students with exposure to real-world sustainability issues through research programs, innovation projects, international forums, and partnerships with global institutions.
Offer guidance, mentorship, and career development resources to support students pursuing sustainability-related academic and professional pathways.
Strengthen GELA’s role as a global leader and collaborative platform connecting universities, young leaders, and international partners in advancing sustainability awareness, education, and action.
Build partnerships with industry experts, nonprofits, research institutes, and innovative companies to create hands-on opportunities, internships, and pathways for students committed to sustainable development.
