Tsinghua University Green Association Visits Columbia University CGELA to Advance Youth Dialogue on Sustainability and China–U.S. Collaboration
On July 20, a delegation from the Tsinghua University Student Green Association visited Columbia University and held a dialogue session with the Columbia Global ESG Leadership Association (CGELA). The exchange focused on youth engagement in green transition and low-carbon development, with the aim of strengthening cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing between China and the United States.
Representatives from both organizations introduced their respective missions and key initiatives. The Tsinghua Student Green Association, a leading campus organization in China, has long been committed to advancing sustainability practices and youth climate action. CGELA, based at Columbia University, connects global youth through research, policy engagement, and action-oriented programs to contribute to international sustainability efforts.
During the discussion session, participants explored a range of topics, including comparative pathways for energy transition in China and the United States, trade dynamics and technological innovation in the electric vehicle sector, decarbonization trends in global shipping, and differences in ESG practices across the two countries. The dialogue also addressed broader questions related to energy system transformation, including the role of policy, market forces, and technological development in achieving carbon neutrality.
The exchange provided a platform for interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue, strengthening mutual understanding and highlighting the shared role of youth in addressing global sustainability challenges. Participants emphasized the importance of continued engagement and the development of long-term dialogue mechanisms to support collaboration in research, policy, and practice.
Looking ahead, both organizations expressed interest in expanding cooperation through joint research initiatives, student exchange and internship programs, and sustainability-focused workshops. They also aim to continue contributing to global conversations through platforms such as climate summits, climate week events, and academic forums.
This visit reflects the growing role of youth-led organizations in advancing international cooperation on sustainability. CGELA will continue to strengthen partnerships with university-based sustainability groups worldwide and support collaborative efforts to promote a more sustainable future.
